How the New York rebate works
NYS Clean Heat is a utility-run program: National Grid and NYSEG pay a rebate per unit of installed heating capacity on qualifying cold-climate heat pumps. Two things drive the amount — whether the old fossil-fuel system is fully decommissioned, and whether your home meets the program's Weatherized Tier. Homes in a designated disadvantaged community qualify for a higher amount still. Keeping the old system as backup instead of decommissioning it pays a lower rate. Electric baseboard homes qualify well too. Rebate tiers and program rules change, so rather than quote a number that may be out of date by the time you read this, we run your exact address, home size and equipment through the current program rules at the free estimate and tell you precisely what you qualify for.

Natural gas customers: as of January 1, 2026 the utility rebate requires electric (or combined electric + gas) service. Gas-only homes no longer get the utility rebate, but other incentives may apply. We'll walk through your options at the audit.
How the Vermont rebate works
Efficiency Vermont pays a fixed discount per qualifying cold-climate heat pump, with the amount set by whether the system is ductless or ducted and by ducted system size. On top of that, income-eligible households get one utility bonus — the amount depends on whether your utility is Green Mountain Power, a VPPSA member utility, or another provider. Heat pump water heaters carry a separate rebate. It's paid per unit of heating capacity by your electric utility (National Grid or NYSEG), and the amount depends on your conversion type, whether your home meets the Weatherized Tier, and whether you're in a designated disadvantaged community. What changed on January 1, 2026?
Two things. NYS Clean Heat rebates are now limited to homes with 1–4 units, and customers must have electric utility service (or combined electric and gas). Natural-gas-only customers no longer qualify for the utility rebate — other incentives may still apply; we'll walk through them.
What is a 'whole-home conversion' and why does it pay more?
Your existing fossil-fuel heating system is fully removed and replaced with a Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat system covering 100% of the home's heating load — not kept as backup. That earns the highest rebate tier. System requirements apply and we confirm eligibility at the audit.
What is the Weatherized Tier and why does it pay more?
Homes that meet National Grid/NYSEG's Weatherized Tier — newer construction, documented prior insulation work, or a heating-load calculation that clears the threshold — get a higher rebate rate than the base tier, whether or not the old system is fully decommissioned. We check your home's qualification path at the free estimate.
Do I get the rebate as a check?
No — better. As a participating contractor we apply it as an instant discount on your invoice and the utility pays us. Nothing to mail, nothing to wait for.
What about Vermont?
Efficiency Vermont pays a fixed discount per unit that varies by ductless vs. ducted equipment and by size, and eligible households add one income bonus on top based on their utility. Heat pump water heaters qualify for a rebate as well. We confirm your exact numbers before you sign.
Is there still a federal tax credit?
The federal 25C credit for heat pumps and heat pump water heaters expired for installations after December 31, 2025. State and utility rebates continue. We'll tell you exactly what's available on the day you sign, not what was available last year.
