Ducted

Two ways to go ducted

SVZ multi-position air handler. A furnace-sized cabinet that installs upright, horizontal or downflow in the same spot your furnace occupies, connected to the existing supply and return trunks. Paired with a Hyper-Heat outdoor unit it becomes your whole-home heating and central air system — one thermostat, the registers you already have, and no fuel bill.

SEZ / PEAD horizontal-ducted. Slim units about 8 inches tall that sit above a ceiling, in a soffit, or below a floor and feed two or three rooms through short duct runs. Popular in new construction and additions because they use far less ductwork than a conventional system, and in older homes for the upstairs bedrooms where the original ducts never reached.

Questions about ducted units

Will my old ducts work?

Usually, after testing. We measure static pressure and look for leaks and undersized returns before quoting. Ducts that need sealing or a new return are priced in writing up front.

Where does the SVZ air handler go?

Where the furnace is now: basement, utility closet, attic. It installs upright, horizontal or downflow, so it fits almost any existing layout.

Do I still need a separate AC condenser?

No. The Hyper-Heat outdoor unit does both. The old AC condenser and the furnace both come out.

Can a ducted unit be part of a multi-zone system?

Yes — a common Upstate design is a ducted air handler for the first floor and wall units for the bedrooms, all on one MXZ outdoor unit.

Is ducted less efficient than ductless?

Slightly — fan energy and duct losses. Sealed ducts inside conditioned space close most of the gap. The tradeoff is invisibility and one thermostat.

Can I use my Nest or ecobee?

With a thermostat interface adapter, yes, though you lose some of the inverter's fine control. The MHK2 or kumo cloud® gets the most out of the system.
