Why We Install RUUD Air Conditioners
A central air conditioner is only as good as the load calculation and the installation behind it. An oversized system short cycles, never removes humidity properly, and wears out early — which is why we calculate your home's actual cooling load rather than matching whatever tonnage was there before.
As a factory-trained RUUD installer, we set refrigerant charge by weight and superheat, verify airflow across the coil, commission the system to manufacturer specification, and register your warranty for you so your coverage is active from day one.

Signs It's Time to Replace Your Air Conditioner
- Your system is 12–15+ years old — most central AC systems last 12–17 years, and efficiency drops well before failure.
- It uses R-22 refrigerant — R-22 has been phased out of production, making leak repairs expensive and increasingly impractical.
- Rising repair bills — if you have called for repair more than once in a season, replacement is often cheaper long-term.
- Climbing electric bills in summer — older systems lose efficiency every year even with maintenance.
- The house cools unevenly, or never feels dry — typically an oversizing or airflow problem that a properly sized replacement corrects.
- The system runs constantly on hot days — it can no longer keep up with your home's cooling load.
- Loud operation, or ice forming on the lines — signs of mechanical wear or refrigerant and airflow faults.

Considering a Heat Pump Instead?
Here is something most contractors will not tell you when you call about air conditioning: a Mitsubishi heat pump is an air conditioner — it cools your home exactly the same way — and it also heats it. For close to the cost of a premium AC replacement, you get cooling plus a heating system that runs efficiently well below zero.
That matters most if your furnace or boiler is also aging. Instead of replacing an AC now and a furnace in three years, one Mitsubishi system handles both. Cold-climate heat pumps also qualify for $6,000–$10,000 in New York and Vermont rebates — incentives that central air conditioning alone does not receive.
As a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor ELITE, we will price both options for your home with real annual operating costs so you can compare honestly. If RUUD central air is the right fit, we install it properly and stand behind it.
Rebates & Financing for Your New Air Conditioner
High-efficiency RUUD air conditioners can qualify for utility rebates and manufacturer promotions, and financing is available with 18 months interest-free on qualifying installations so you do not have to pay for a new system all at once. Heat pump installations currently qualify for $6,000–$10,000 in New York and Vermont incentives. We handle the rebate paperwork and walk you through every financing option before you decide, so you always know the real all-in cost upfront.

RUUD Air Conditioning Installation FAQs
What size air conditioner does my home need?
It depends on your square footage, insulation, window area and orientation, ceiling heights, and ductwork — not just floor area. We perform a real cooling load calculation during your free estimate. Oversizing is the most common mistake in AC replacement: an oversized system cools fast but shuts off before removing humidity, leaving the house clammy and wearing the compressor out early.
What does SEER2 mean, and what rating do I need?
SEER2 measures cooling output per unit of electricity under current federal test conditions — higher means lower operating cost. In our climate, where the cooling season is real but not year-round, most homeowners land well with a 16 SEER2 system, while 17–19 SEER2 variable-speed models pay off through better humidity control and quieter operation as much as through energy savings.
How long does an AC installation take?
Most straightforward replacements are completed in one day. Jobs involving ductwork modifications, electrical upgrades, or a first-time central air installation may take two days or more. We give you a clear timeline before work begins.
What is R-454B refrigerant, and does it affect me?
R-454B is the current low-GWP refrigerant that replaced R-410A in new systems under federal environmental regulations. All current RUUD Endeavor Line models use it. It does not change how the system operates for you, but it does mean older R-22 and R-410A systems cannot simply be topped off with the new refrigerant — another reason replacement often makes more sense than repairing a very old system.
Can I add central air conditioning if I do not have ductwork?
Installing new ductwork in an existing home is possible but invasive and expensive. In most no-duct homes, a Mitsubishi ductless mini split is the better path — it cools as effectively, installs with minimal disruption, and adds efficient heating as a bonus. We will walk you through both options honestly.
Do RUUD air conditioners qualify for rebates?
High-efficiency models often qualify for utility rebates and manufacturer promotions. We confirm exactly what your specific model qualifies for and handle the paperwork before installation. Note that heat pumps qualify for substantially larger incentives — $6,000 to $10,000 in New York and Vermont — which is worth comparing before you decide.
What warranty comes with a new RUUD air conditioner?
RUUD Endeavor Line air conditioners carry up to a 10-year limited parts warranty, and premium Ultra Series models add a 10-year conditional unit replacement warranty. Registration is required for full coverage, and we handle that registration for you at no extra cost.
How often does central air conditioning need maintenance?
Once a year, ideally in spring before the cooling season. Annual service includes cleaning the condenser coil, checking refrigerant charge, testing electrical components and the capacitor, clearing the condensate drain, and verifying airflow. It is also required to keep most manufacturer warranties valid.
