Why rooms go wrong — and why the fix is usually a zone, not a bigger furnace

Most comfort complaints in Upstate New York and Vermont homes aren't a furnace or boiler failing. They're a single thermostat trying to run a house with a sunny upstairs, a shaded addition, a basement that holds damp air and a kitchen that makes its own heat. One setpoint can't win that fight. The Home Comfort Diagnostic sorts your complaints by room so the fix matches the room: a wall-mounted unit for the bonus room the ductwork never reached, a floor-mounted unit for a cold, humid basement, a ceiling cassette for an open kitchen, or a ducted Mitsubishi air handler when the whole house is the problem.

What the report gives you

Each room you flag gets a finding (what's happening and why), the Mitsubishi indoor unit type that normally solves it, and — if you heat with oil, propane or electric baseboard — the NYS Clean Heat rebate range a conversion typically earns. Vermont homes see Efficiency Vermont per-unit incentives instead. The report is plain text you can copy into the estimate form, and our Comfort Specialists use it to plan the walk-through before they arrive.

Next step

Run the diagnostic, then run the cost calculator to see what your current fuel is actually costing you each year. Between the two you'll know which rooms to fix, what fixes them, and what doing nothing costs — before anyone sets foot in your home.

Questions homeowners ask

Is the diagnostic free?

Yes. It takes about two minutes, asks no personal information, and nobody calls unless you request an estimate.

How accurate is the recommendation?

It is directional: it tells you which Mitsubishi indoor unit type usually solves each kind of room problem and roughly what NYS Clean Heat rebate tier you fall in. Final sizing always comes from an in-home load calculation.

Can a heat pump really fix a cold addition or bonus room?

That is the single most common job we do. A single-zone wall unit gives the room its own thermostat, heats it to -13°F outdoor temperature, and cools it in summer — with one 3-inch hole and no ductwork.

What if the whole house is the problem?

Then the answer is usually a whole-home Hyper-Heat conversion: either a ducted air handler on your existing ducts or a multi-zone ductless system. Whole-home conversions off oil or propane earn the highest rebates.
