Heat pump installation
Whole-home Hyper-Heat, single-zone mini-splits, ducted air handlers. Load-calculated and commissioned to Mitsubishi spec.
DetailsPort Henry and the Moriah hamlets are built on hillsides above Lake Champlain, with tall mining-era homes on oil and kerosene. A Mitsubishi heat pump cuts the fuel bill and finally adds cooling.
Port Henry climbs from the harbor up the hillside, with narrow streets, steep driveways and tall frame houses put up when the iron mines were busy. Moriah's hamlets spread out from there. No natural gas serves the area, so oil, kerosene and wood heat the homes, and many of the buildings are decades past their last major upgrade. Winters are long.
A Hyper-Heat system works best in exactly this setting: high fuel costs, solid but uninsulated structures and owners who want to cut deliveries without giving up a backup. Tall houses can take heads on each floor, and the outdoor unit can sit on the uphill side where snow slides away. Tall stairwells and steep lots are common here, and both are easy to plan around when we visit.

“They were here when they said they'd be and did what they said they'd do with total attention to detail and thoroughness. There's no substitute for peace of mind.”
“Had them install a mini split system. Excellent customer service — from the estimate on site visit to the install, each individual was kind and professional.”

Check eligibilityThe hillside setting is lovely and hard on heating. Houses face the lake with wind coming straight at the north and west walls, and steep lots make fuel trucks work harder for access. Some dealers add charges for hard deliveries.
Miner-era houses in Moriah and Mineville were put up fast and have been patched since. Heat escapes through the attics, through older windows and up the stairwells in two-and-a-half-story frames.
In a tall frame house, a two- or three-zone ductless layout usually does the job: a head on the main floor for the living area, one on the second floor for bedrooms and sometimes one in the attic room. The system warms the stairwell air as part of the loop.
For smaller homes and camps in Moriah, a single-zone setup may be all it takes, and that is often a one-day job.
Outdoor units are mounted on aluminum stands set high enough to clear heavy snow, and we position them to avoid roof avalanches. Pan heaters and surge protectors are standard. See ductless mini split options for a closer look.
