Often we are asked a lot of different questions in regards to a heat pump’s ability to heat and cool effectively compared to traditional systems. In this blog post, we will be covering heat pump common objections along with detailed information regarding those objections. The fact is, many people have a misunderstanding about current heat pump technology.
The main thing you need to take out of this is that heat pumps do not actually create heat, they simply move heat. This makes them very efficient and long-lasting. Heat pumps move heat from conditioned space in summer, so a heat pump system works as a heater and an air conditioner for a fraction of the cost of traditional heating and cooling systems.
This is probably one of the most asked questions and the answer is simple. Heat pumps are the same as traditional furnaces in that if it gets extremely cold they have to work harder and longer to keep you comfortable. If a traditional furnace was installed and the proper calculations for size and BTU were used, based on construction, insulation and climate data listed for that area. The great thing about air source heat pumps is that they are normally installed in a building that already has a primary heating system. Alongside this traditional heating system that will most likely never be needed again, it can be utilized in a rare extreme cold situation resulting in what we call a hybrid system. The idea is to eliminate the use of fossil fuels, reduce monthly heating costs by 75% and enjoy full home control of your heating.
