Spring Pool Heat Pump Tune Ups

If you are one of the many homeowners that also has a swimming pool in the backyard then you may be chomping at the bit to get that pool open and ready for swim season.

If you are fortunate enough, you will also have a swimming pool heat pump so that you can start to enjoy the swim season earlier. But is your pool heat pump ready to be fired up and warming your pool? There are a few things that you can do to help get your pool heat pump ready to start working once more.

Spring Pool Heat Pump Tune Ups

First of all, if you are unaware, it is important to understand that your pools heat pump doesn’t actually generate heat. Instead, it pulls the heat from the ambient air and transfers it to the water. This piece of equipment does much more than that in this process and is a vital piece of equipment for many pool owners in the area. That is why it is important to make sure that you are taking care of it and keeping it’s maintenance in mind when opening your pool for the summer.

Here are a few things that you can do to make sure that it continues to work well:

Maintain the airflow around your unit.

You will want to ensure that there are no plants or walls that can prevent the ambient air from flowing into the unit. Make sure that it is not even partially blocked to prevent your unit from working too hard. This will keep your operating costs low all season long.

Ensure that there is no debris on your units intake.

Over time yard debris can get lodged in the heat pump intake. This will also cause your unit to work much harder than it should. Removing the debris is a simple job and all it requires is gloves and a shop vac. First, you will need to locate the intake on your unit. This is pretty simple as in most cases the air intake will be located on the top side of the unit. Once this is located you will take the shop vac and remove as much debris as possible from the intake.

It is also wise to have a trained professional take a look at your system. We know that your heat pump is not exactly a cheap investment and if you feel unsure at all about performing a maintenance task, we are always happy to come to take a look.

For even greater benefit we offer a great Monthly Maintenance Program that will ensure that you receive semi-annual maintenance on your pool equipment as well as all the HVAC equipment in your home.
